Sports icon Greg Norman paid an emotional visit to the recovering town of Marysville before helping to raise $36,000 at a bushfire fundraising event highlighted by iconic folk duo Simon and Garfunkel.

Marysville was ravaged by the February 7 fire which killed 34 people and destroyed hundreds of homes.

Norman visited the mountain community early on Sunday, before joining more than 300 survivors from the Marysville region at a day out in the Yarra Valley organised by mining magnate Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest and Linfox Property Group, where Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel entertained the crowds.

"The spirit was just tremendous and I know I had a tear in my eye. It was a very, very moving experience," Norman told the Nine Network.

Victorian Premier John Brumby also attended the event, announcing more funds for bushfire victims.

Grants of $15,000 will be given to people who lost their homes, in addition to the $50,000 payments already made.
