Rees Appoints Great White Shark As Ambassador For Sydney

Premier of NSW, Mr. Nathan Rees, announced on Monday Greg Norman would act as an ambassador for Sydney - promoting Australia's global city as the nations foremost business, tourist, and golf destination.

Greg Norman has won more tournaments in Sydney (12) than in any other city in the world.

Mr. Rees also revealed 'The Great White Shark' would head the field at the next three Australian Opens, beginning in December with the 2009 Open at the NSW Golf Club.

Norman has won more tournaments in Sydney (12) than in any other city in the world.

"Greg will bring tens of thousands of spectators through the gates over the four days of the Championship" Mr. Rees said.

"And for the millions watching around the world, surely there is no more picturesque backdrop to showcase Sydney than the New South Wales Golf Club."

In May, US Golf Digest rated NSW Golf Club as the top ranked course in Australia and the top ranked course in the world outside of the USA and the UK.

Mr. Rees said Greg Norman's ambassador role would deliver real benefits NSW.

"Greg Norman will be a terrific ambassador and representative for Sydney and NSW," Mr. Rees said.

"No Australian sportsman or businessman is held in higher regard internationally than Greg Norman.

"His long term involvement with Sydney and his business reputation will help drive trade and investment for our State," Mr. Rees said.

Sydney is the Australian headquarters of Greg Norman's corporate operations.

Greg Norman serves as Chairman and CEO of Great White Shark Enterprises, a multinational corporation that comprises Greg Norman Golf Course Design, Medallist Golf Developments, Greg Norman Turf Company, Greg Norman Interactive, Greg Norman Production company, merchandising and licensing.

Greg Norman has 86 international victories including two British Opens.
