Robert Allenby

Australia's Robert Allenby brings a 6-11-2 record to this, his fifth Presidents Cup appearance. Allenby grew up in Melbourne, the home of some of the world's finest golf courses and early in his professional career was touted by five-time British Open winner Peter Thomson -- another Melbourne native -- as a player he thought "might have the goods" to make it on the world stage. As he has been so often in his career, Thomson proved to be right on the money. Allenby began the 2009 season with four victories on the PGA TOUR and 16 international wins. His TOUR victories came in two bunches; a pair in 2000 and two more in 2001. The latter was the same year he received the Ben Hogan Award from the Golf Writers Association of America for his comeback from a serious 1996 automobile accident in Spain which left him with a broken sternum and facial injuries.

Robert Allenby's 1996 season on the European Tour, when he finished third on the Order of Merit (official money list), ended prematurely when he was seriously injured in an automobile accident in October. Allenby is a patron and spokesperson for Challenge Cancer Support Network, which has raised more than $9 million since 1993 for children with cancer and blood disorders.

2009 PGA TOUR Highlights: Allenby tied for fifth at The Honda Classic for his first top-10 of the season and his third consecutive top-10 at that tournament. He wore a pink shirt on Sunday in honor of his mother, Sylvia, who passed away a month earlier following a long battle with cancer. His finish tied him with Tiger Woods for the TOUR lead with 30 consecutive cuts made. He finished tied for fourth at the St. Jude Classic presented by FedEx, his second consecutive top-5 showing at TPC Southwind. He shot four rounds in the 60s to tie for second place with Irelands Padraig Harrington at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, four behind the winner, Woods, tying his best career finish in a World Golf Championships event (a tie for second in the 2002 Bridgestone Invitational).
