|“Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” - Steve Jobs|

|Eastern Golf Club Opens to Rave Reviews|
In 2008, Eastern Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia selected Greg Norman Golf Course Design to design its new golf club in the Yarra Valley as part of a relocation of its club with aspirations of having one of the top golf courses in Australia. Members embarked on a new chapter of the club’s 110-year history last month with the soft opening of the $70 million facility and the first 18 of a planned holes 27 holes now open. |
The member-friendly course that is challenging to players of all levels has been receiving extraordinary praise from members and media alike. As a result, they are now experiencing unprecedented demand for membership, with waiting lists of up to three years.
The new facility is currently only open for play by members, with an official Grand Opening of the club, hosted by Greg Norman, expected to take place in October.
Norman's experience and affinity for sand belt courses along with his environmentally friendly design approach were key factors in the selection of GNGCD to design the course. Norman has always admired the work of Alister Mackenzie designs, such as Royal Melbourne, and his ability to emulate the qualities of these courses in areas beyond sandy soils was a great asset to the project.
The spectacular 242-hectare property provides sweeping 360 degree views of the mountain range as well as the Yarra River. GNGCD orchestrated a golf course routing that blends seamlessly with the existing terrain.
"I am a firm believer in using what Mother Nature has given me on a particular site," Norman said. "Rivers, mountain views, rock features, vegetation and undulating topography are a few natural elements that provide a course with its own unique feel. The simplicity of our approach allows us to create a natural golf experience.”
