The Open Preview
The 144th Open returns to the Home of Golf this year at St. Andrews. This storied course has hosted The Open on 28 occasions from 1873 – 2010. Over the course of its 142-year history, it has produced winners that were the best of their generation including Bobby Jones in 1927, Sam Snead in 1946, Jack Nicklaus in 1970 and 1978, and Tiger Woods in 2000 and 2005.
Greg and son, Greg, Jr., pose for a picture on the Swilcan Bridge on the 18th hole at the Old Course at St. Andrews.
What does this mean for this year’s tournament? Will Jordan Spieth get one step closer to the elusive Grand Slam? To date, nobody has ever won the modern-day grand slam in a single season. Only Tiger Woods has ever held all four titles at one time.
For those of you holding out hope that Greg Norman will make is final walk across the Swilcan Bridge this year, he confirmed to BBC earlier this year that he will not be teeing it up:
“I'm not going to walk up to the first tee and feel like I'm taking the space of a young kid who could learn a heck of a lot more from it. I don't believe in doing that. I think it's so unfair to do that. There's a young kid who may be qualifying for the Open that could take my spot and could be the next Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Tiger Woods -- you don't know.”

Although Greg Norman, the '86 and '93 British Open Champion, will not be playing this year, he will be watching. His thoughts:
“I don’t think you can mention The Open this year without talking about Rory McIlroy. As the No. 1 ranked player in the world and defending Open champion who currently holds two 2014 Major titles, he has proven himself to be a consistent and powerful player, capable of unlimited potential. Unfortunately, with Rory on crutches, it leaves a lot of doubt as to his prospects next week. I’ll definitely be watching to see what Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott and Jason Day do. Keep an eye out for Dustin Johnson too. There would be no better time for DJ to bite the snakes head off than at The Open, so watch out for him. It will be a compelling week of golf!”
The Open Championship begins next week, July 12-19 on ESPN.
Medalist Village – New Luxury. Old Florida.
Medalist Village, the premier private residential golf community in historic Hobe Sound, Fla., is proud to announce the launch of a new website as part of a comprehensive rebranding initiative.|
Founded by Greg Norman in 1995, the unique, niche development is surrounded by 870 acres of untouched, pristine natural Florida preserve. With only 119 residences, the low-density plan allows for the privacy, tranquility and relaxation not found in any other South Florida locale.
Nestled among the preserve sits the Medalist Village Club and Spa home to a Greg Norman-designed par-3 golf course, 2 Har-Tru tennis courts, world-class spa and fitness facilities, and the distinctive Aussie Pub that serves as the social center of the community. Also behind the gates is the famed Medalist Golf Club, one of the most lauded designs of modern golf course architecture.
A true representation of “old Florida,” Hobe Sound is located just north of Jupiter along the Atlantic coast. Renowned for its pristine beaches, unspoiled parks and championship golf courses, Hobe Sound was named the No. 1 “Best Beach Town” in America in 2014. Medalist Village is close to an abundance of shopping, dining and entertainment in neighboring towns as well as Palm Beach International Airport and North County General Aviation Airport (for private jets).
Estate homes start at $1 million.

Valero Junior Texas Open: Future Stars Rising
The Valero Texas Open, together with the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), are hosting the Valero Junior Texas Open at TPC San Antonio July 12-16.
The Valero Junior Texas Open will be played on the Greg Norman-designed AT&T Oaks at TPC San Antonio, host of the PGA TOUR's Valero Texas Open since 2010.
In 1922, the historic Brackenridge Golf Course set the stage for the inaugural Texas Open. Now, nearly a century later the fabled site will play host to aspiring junior golfers for the Valero Junior Texas Open’s Qualifier to be held July 12.
Following the Qualifier, TPC San Antonio – host of the Valero Texas Open since 2010 - will host the field of the 96 top junior golfers from Texas, across the nation and beyond for the Valero Junior Texas Open, July 14-16 on the AT&T Oaks Course.
The premier junior golf circuit in the world, the AJGA, through its tournaments, has developed many of the games current touring professionals, including: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Davis Love III, Jim Furyk, Rickie Fowler, Stacy Lewis and Paula Creamer. In fact, the Valero Texas Open’s reigning Champion, Jimmy Walker, won this San Antonio AJGA Tournament in 1996 at the age of 17.
As the Valero Texas Open looks to grow this tournament and position it among the best on the AJGA, they have partnered with the PGA of America to secure exemptions into the Junior PGA Championship for the Valero Junior Texas Open’s Boys and Girls Division champions. The Junior PGA Championship will be played later this summer, August 3-6, at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.
As part of this partnership with the PGA of America, the Boys Division champion of the Junior PGA Championship will earn an exemption into the Valero Texas Open next April. Therefore, any one of the junior boys participating could just be two wins away from competing on the PGA TOUR, along-side the best golfers in the world. Good luck juniors!
Morgan Leigh Norman’s Recipe for Down Under Hamburger with Rocket & Fried Egg
A grilled, ground chuck patty is transformed into a decadent treat with the addition of a fried egg, sliced beets and fresh arugula. The purity of fruit and spicy character of Greg Norman Estates Limestone Coast Shiraz makes it a great match for this burger from Down Under.
- 1 lb. ground chuck
- 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
2 tsp. dried oregano
- 1 Tbsp. Ketchup
2 tsp. coarse sea salt
- 2 tsp. freshly cracked black pepper
- 4 hamburger buns or Ciabatta Rolls
- 4 whole eggs
1 jar sliced beets, drained
1 cup rocket (aka: Arugula)
- Ketchup, extra
In large mixing bowl, combine ground chuck, Worcestershire sauce, 1 Tbsp. ketchup, sea salt and fresh pepper. With hands, mix until everything is well combined. Section off the meat into four equal parts; using hands, form chuck into patties. (Note: Once patties are made, make a pretty deep thumb print in center of patty. This will ensure a flat hamburger once cooked).
Either over an open grill or over a stove-top grill pan, cook hamburger patties to desired temperature. Set aside and keep warm. If preferred, grill/toast up hamburger buns over grill.
In a medium sauté pan, over high heat, add 1 Tbsp. olive oil to coat bottom of pan. Fry 2 eggs at a time until the whites are just cooked through but not to the point that the yolks is cooked through. (Note: You want the yolk to remain soft and runny). Cook remaining two eggs.
To prepare hamburger, place cooked patty on prepared bun. Add sliced beets, rocket and gently place fried egg on top. If desired, spread mayonnaise on top part of bun and place on top of burger to finish.
The Aussie way of eating this burger is to let the yolk break open and run into the meat and bun. It is a bit messy but tastes amazing!
