A Q&A With Greg Norman
You’re returning to the PNC Father/Son Challenge this year for the first time since 2008. Have you and Greg, Jr. Been practicing and strategizing in anticipation of the competition?
Yes, we have been practicing and have also played a few rounds in a scramble to prepare for the tournament format.
How would you describe the state of your game and the state of Greg, Jr.’s game presently?
Gregory’s game is strong as he has been spending more time practicing and honing his skills since we decided to enter the tournament. Each day for me is a step in the right direction, seeing I have spent very little time on the driving range or golf course for the past five years.
Do you have a favorite “golf” memory with your son?
We played in the 2008 ADT Golf Skills Challenge at Turnberry Miami and Gregory made an incredible short iron shot that landed only one inch from the hole to win $290,000. I was so proud and happy for him to pull off that shot on National TV in front of an impressive group of guys like Fred Couples and Rocco Mediate. Great memory!
Looking back on your participation in the PNC Father/Son Challenge between 2006-08, do any memories stick out?
Just the shear enjoyment of playing with my son and seeing how passionate and dedicated he was not only to the game of golf, but his understanding of what the game has done for his life.
With such a focus on your businesses, do you find much time to play golf right now?
The past few years I have only played an average of 5-7 rounds of golf/year. I have many more things in life and business that I enjoy doing so much more and do not seeing this trend changing.
