Mandarina Opens New Short Course By Greg Norman’s Design Firm

A nine-hole short course by Greg Norman Golf Course Design (GNGCD) has opened at the Mandarina resort on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit stretch of the Pacific coast.
The layout is made up of nine par threes and the design team has aimed to craft a mix of links, parkland and sandbelt holes, with GNGCD afforded a lush expanse of land, called ‘The Flatlands’, highlighted by native vegetation. There is also a ‘challenge hole’ that golfers can play, whether settling bets, playing closest-the-pin or including it as part of the round.
Mandarina’s short course has been designed to be “enjoyable for families of all ages but challenging enough for avid golfers,” according to Luis Durán, chief executive officer at RLH Properties, the developer of the resort. Greens have a variety of pin positions, with many that can be accessed by a running shot or a chip.
The layout also has sweeping views of the Sierra de Vallejo mountain range, Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club, Canalan Beach Club and the Pacific Ocean.
“Mandarina’s course offers something truly different – every hole tells a story,” said Greg Norman. “We created a course that’s approachable yet exciting, offering both leisure and a touch of challenge in a setting you won’t find anywhere else.”

The course is open to the public and not just the residents and guests at the Mandarina resort, which comprises a One&Only Mandarina hotel, private homes and other amenities. A new Rosewood Mandarina hotel and residences are also in development.
