Greg Norman Golf Course Design Honored with Golf Inc.’s Renovation of the Year

Norman: “I am always grateful to be able to return to my original designs and have the opportunity to restore them, so this award is truly the icing on the cake.”

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (July 30, 2020) – Greg Norman Golf Course Design (GNGCD) and TPC Sugarloaf celebrate earning the coveted first place in the private category of Golf Inc.’s Renovation of the Year award, designed to recognize the most outstanding golf course renovations and restorations completed this past year. Judging was based on a combination of 3 factors: achievement of goals (50 percent of final score), improved playability and maintainability (25 percent of final score) and course aesthetics (25 percent of final score).

The prestigious award recognizes the completion of TPC Sugarloaf’s three‐year enhancement project, encompassing renovations to the Golf Courses, Clubhouse and Lifestyle Center with a goal of modernizing the amenities and enriching member experiences.

The property features three nine‐hole golf courses, all designed by Greg Norman Golf Course Design, including The Stables and The Meadows, opened in 1997, and The Pines, opened in 2000. The courses saw extensive updates including resurfaced greens, tees, fairways, rebuilt bunkers, a state‐of‐the‐art irrigation system for better coverage, as well as new and resurfaced cart paths. TPC Sugarloaf celebrated a grand re‐opening in October 2019 attended by Norman and his original design team.

Also integral to the renovation project was Senior Designer for PGA TOUR Design and Construction Services, Milan Moore, who has been with the TOUR for 15 years. Moore oversaw day‐to‐day construction, working hand‐in‐hand with the GNGCD team.

“Golf Inc.’s annual renovation awards hold such high‐esteem, so to be recognized with their highest honor is a privilege and a testament to the incredible work done by my design team, everyone at TPC Sugarloaf and Milan Moore,” said Greg Norman. “I am always grateful to be able to return to my original designs and have the opportunity to restore them, so this award is truly the icing on the cake.”

The updates will allow the course to be challenging for the players of the upcoming PGA TOUR Champions’ Mitsubishi Electric Classic, yet approachable for the recreational player.

“Earning this recognition by Golf Inc. is a tremendous honor, and one we’re thrilled to celebrate, “said Mike Maloney, General Manager of TPC Sugarloaf. “We could not have executed this large‐scale project without the help of Greg Norman and his design team and are excited their work has been commended.”

With intentions to further improve the golf experience, the property also made major updates to the Clubhouse, with a significant expansion of the club restaurant, RYE Kitchen & Bar, and the addition of a covered outdoor patio overlooking the beautiful 18th green.
