Second Title to Australian
Greg Norman won his second Suntory World Match Play title this week by defeating Englishman Nick Faldo 3 and 2 in the final match. Norman’s last Suntory title came in 1980 when he defeated Sandy Lyle 1-up.
Taking control over the final nine holes in the 36-hole final, Norman claimed victory on the 34th green. While leading 2-up after 27 holes, the 28-year-old Australian would credit his victory to a 232-yard 3-wood that came to rest six inches from the hole on No. 10.
Norman defeated Lyle in the first round, American Calvin Peete in the quarterfinal and Spaniard Seve Ballesteros in the semifinal. This was Norman’s second tournament title of the year. He collected his second Australian Masters title in February.
