Norman Earns Second PGA TOUR Title
OAKVILLE, ONTARIO – Greg Norman took his season earnings to $243,524 when he grabbed victory in the Canadian Open. The win was worth $72,000 to Norman, known on the overseas circuits as the “Great White Shark”.
He made up four shots on leader African Nick Price over the front nine, then passed the struggling Jack Nicklaus to take the victory by two shots.
Norman produced a final round 5-under-par 67 in his battle with Nicklaus, the man Norman has called his idol.
Norman won the Canadian title with a 278 total, 10 shots under par on the Glen Abbey course in Oakville, Ontario. He posted rounds of 73, 68, 70 and 67 for a 278 total.
Norman, who acquired 31 worldwide titles before joining the PGA Tour, scored his first North American triumph in the Kemper Open early in June, and he then took Fuzzy Zoeller to an 18-hole playoff before finishing second in the U.S. Open.
Norman joins Tom Watson, Tom Kite and Gary Koch as the season’s two-time winners.
Nicklaus, 44, who designed the course as a permanent site for the Canadian championship, was runner-up.
The Canadian Open is the third oldest national open championship in the world with its inception in 1904.
