Awesome Display Stuns ESP Open

Once again The Great White Shark orchestrated an awesome charge that was seven-shots better than all challengers.

Greg Norman convincingly won the ESP Open at the Royal Canberra and his record-setting performance in the first round was still very much the talk of the town. Norman authored a remarkable 10-under 62 on the opening day, thus jumping out to a commanding lead in the $175,000 event.

German Bernhard Langer was a distant second at 12-under-par. Noel Ratcliffe finished third and Peter O’Malley secured fourth.

“That was an amazing round by Norman,” said Peter Fowler, former Australian Open Champion, who finished 15th at this week’s event. “It was the sort of thing that happens once in a blue moon. He beat Langer by seven shots and the next best score all week was 66.”

This was Norman’s 25th Australian tournament title. He did not three-putt a single green the entire week and wrapped his arms around a $45,000 check for his efforts.

The ESP was hosted at Royal Canberra, which has been the venue for several National PGA events. This was Norman’s second tournament trophy of the year and follows hot on the heels his victorious romp in the Palm Meadows Cup, which he conquered late last month on the Gold Coast.
