Norman Seals Fourth Title
Greg Norman took home another New South Wales Open trophy, finishing two strokes ahead of fellow Australian Craig Parry at Concord Golf Club in Sydney.
Norman had established the Concord course record in 1986 with a blistering 65. Favorable weather and immaculate course conditions allowed three players in the field to break Norman’s mark. Craig Parry and Lyndsay Stephen had opening rounds of 64 and Peter Senior closed on 64.
Norman began with rounds of 66, 69 and 69, and going into the final 18 holes only Parry was poised to make a move. Alas, the defending champion could not mount a significant charge. Norman held on for a two-shot victory despite erratic play Sunday that resulted in a closing 73. Norman pocketed $36,000 for the victory.
This has been another gigantic year for the Queenslander. Starting with the Palm Meadows Cup in January, he won a tournament title every month through to May.
